Selling tropical lumber in the following species (click above link for photos): Please call Hans at 813.880.7838 for more information Virola (a great Mahogany substitute) 4/4, 6/4 Congona (white mahogany) 4/4, 6/4 inventory list one inventory list two inventory list three CONGONA (WHITE MAHOGANY) Information SCIENTIFIC NAME: Brosium Uleanum FAMILY: Moracea COMMON NAME: White Mahogany/ Congona DESCRIPTION OF WOOD: Color: Beige sapwood, gradual transition to yellowish brown heartwood Grain: Straight to inter crossed Texture: Medium to Fine Brightness: Medium to Brighten Stripped: Arcs placed above, marbled, satiny in longitudinal bands, not very sharp Smell: Fresh Vanilla Taste: Absent or not very distinguished PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Basic Density: 0.68 g.cm3 Volume Contraction: 12.7% Contraction Rate T/R: 1.6 MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Dry: During the air drying process there is no twist or cross break of consideration. Nor when it is kiln dried, but dried process must not be very hard Durability: It damages very easily, it does not resist white, brown, and blue rotting. Employment: Easy to surface, sandpaper, good finish, easy to work with carpentry tolls. Usage: In hard constructions. Layers, wood for structures (beams, columns, etc), floors and dovetailing tool handles, drawers. Because of its good combination with concrete, its is very helpful for fiber-concrete boards CUMALA/RED CUMALA Information SCIENTIFIC NAME: Dyalianthera sp FAMILY: Myristicaceae COMMON NAME: Red Cumala DESCRIPTION OF WOOD: Color: Pink brown sapwood. Heartwood of a regular gray brown Grain: Straight to irregular Texture: Medium Brightness: High bright Stripped: It has a little figure, except that it is curly grain PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Basic Density: 0.45 g.cm3 Volume Contraction: 13.4% Contraction Rate T/R: 2.4 MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Dry: Regular air drying. It has some defects as: cracks and curved. Its may also hold mold in the surface because it has a high final moisture content (+/- 20%). A soft dry process is recommended. A kind of wood easy to saw and good to work with tools, when it is surfaced, the tangential side is very flat. It is easy to nail, without cracking the wood, to glue, it accepts any kind of varnish and lacquer, good finish. Durability & Usage: A little durable wood, easily damaged by insects of dry wood. It is easy to preserve. It can be used on interior work, light carpentry, toys, common furniture.
