U.S. and Canada Hit a Snag in with Softwood Lumber Trade
According to the Edmonton Journal, "Canadian and American officials exchanged views, but resolved nothing when they met this week in Ottawa over American allegations that Canada is violating the terms of the softwood lumber agreement. The one-day meeting on Thursday, and the statements both sides issued afterward, is being viewed by observers as a sign the first dispute in the six-month-old treaty is heading for binding arbitration."

Wyden Calls for Investigation of Chinese Trade Practices
According to article in the Bend Weekly News Source titled 'Wyden supports ITC review of hardwood plywood abuses' "2,000 Oregonians work in the hardwood plywood industry; International Trade Commission review would investigate unfair Chinese trade practices U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon applauded Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus’ decision to formally request that the International Trade Commission (ITC) conduct a review of the U.S. hardwood plywood and wood flooring industry. Nearly 2,000 Oregonians work in the hardwood plywood industry. “I applaud Chairman Baucus’ decision to request an International Trade Commission study to investigate unfair Chinese trade practices that are hurting U.S. hardwood plywood manufacturers and threatening family wage jobs in Oregon and around the country,” Wyden said. “I am confident that the results of the investigation will give the Administration and industry additional leverage to use to curb these troubling practices and protect American jobs.”
