Forest Service Economist Reports Some Bright Spots for 2008.
In a recent inverview in Pallet Enterprise magazine, USFS Research Economist Al Schuler summarzied the recent decline in the housing market, while outlining the underlying long term positive trends in demand due to increasing numbers of households and increased home ownership in immigrant families. Bright spots in the short term are primarily based on diversifying away from dependence on the residential construction market by; focusing on exports, targeting the remodeling market, or better meeting customer demands through custom grades, custom sorts, and delivering smaller than truckload packages.
